The Sacred Ruins

Chapter 304: Decline After the Apex

"As such, you should treasure the present opportunity of becoming a peerless expert. Otherwise, if you enter another world one day, it’ll be quite miserable if you can’t even be a minor demon."

Yellow Ox patted the Manchurian Tiger’s shoulder and tapped on the black yak’s horns.

Not only were the mountains and rivers sturdy in those powerful worlds, but the order of heaven and earth were also closer to perfection. Lifeforms capable of breaking off mountains and splitting the ocean apart on earth would be completely suppressed over there.

The unfettered realm experts could only be minor demons over there.

Yellow Ox, black yak, and the others left for Mount Kunlun. They headed due west while braving the ice and snow.

That was because they were interested in the old temple on the Himalayas. They wanted to obtain the Thunderous Breathing Technique.

No one knew what would happen to the present world. It was even difficult to tell what changes would take place in the heaven and earth. Would the world prosper after the great ice and snow?

The great orthodoxies of the outer realms couldn’t descend, but some of their disciples passing through the fatal trials was only a matter of time.

Could the ice and snow be the will of the heavens, a prelude to an era of demons and gods? Or was this the doing of an orthodoxy from the outer realms?

Nothing was certain. Even Yellow Ox wasn’t clear about this.

What they needed to do was to find ways to make themselves stronger. They simply wouldn’t allow the opportunity to find an ultimate breathing technique on earth to pass by.

"I’ll follow after a few days!" Chu Feng made an appointment with them. He decided to accompany his parents for a few days at the Greatwoods Temple before teaming up with the old llama and the others to explore that thunderous ancient temple.

Rows of temples stood upon Mount Song.

Standing here and gazing into the distance, one would see the vast white world covered in wind and snow.

Chu Feng frowned. He really had no idea when this great snow would stop.

The Elder Ape’s senses were acute. He appeared silently on the peak and sighed. "It’s truly difficult to fathom the will of the heavens."

"Only after a great catastrophe will there be great prosperity. Senior Ape, can I stay at your place until the Vajrapani Bodhi Tree completely revives?" Chu Feng laughed.

The Elder Ape’s expression suddenly turned dark. The Vajrapani Bodhi Tree’s current situation was quite bad. Its leaves first withdrew and then became buds before they eventually wilted and withered. Now, the whole tree was naked.

Neither using tents to shield it from the snow nor using braziers to raise its temperature had any effect.

Chu Zhiyuan and Wang Jing had long since become mutants. Chu Feng was relieved to find that they weren’t troubled despite facing the bitter cold.

News of Chu Feng’s arrival at the Greatwoods Temple spread like wildfire. There was a continuous stream of people arriving to call on him. The most important reason was that he had become extremely famous after that one battle at Mount Longhu.

The wind and snow didn’t affect these powerful evolved beings very much. Many of them were even able to move about near the famed mountains against the wind and snow, observing them for any changes.

"Uncle Master Chu, the Black Wolf King invites you to attend a banquet."

Chu Feng had just seen off a group of people when a junior monkey came to report that someone was inviting him out, and a wolf king at that.

"Very well, let’s go take a look." Chu Feng agreed. The mountain had been sealed by the great snow and he didn’t have much to do. It would be good to keep in touch with these beast race kings.

A mutant avian was waiting at the base of the mountain. This completely red bird had evolved from a willowbiter but was now dozens of meters in length. It carried a small palace on its back and was waiting to ferry Chu Feng to the banquet.

The Black Wolf King’s cave residence was on Mount Baiyun within the Henan region. The scenery here was supposed to be elegant like an immortal realm on earth, a famed mountain of the central plains.

However, at the moment, there was only white snow as far as the eye could see. The mountains and rivers had been completely covered.

The Black Wolf King’s cave residence was very wide and the interior was absolutely dazzling. It’s said that it used to be wild wolf cave but now it had been rebuilt magnificently.

The interior design was quite meticulously arranged. Pavilions, kiosks, small arched stone bridges, and fountains could be seen around the residence along with various types of mutant vegetation. Even if it was a land of ice and snow outside, it was as warm as spring within.

Chu Feng was dumbfounded. He was wondering how it had gone from being a normal wolf cave to such an atmosphere. This was truly unexpected.

"King Chu, I’m unrelated to the Ashwolf King despite being from the wolf race." The Black Wolf King declared his innocence immediately after meeting. He was afraid Chu Feng would think they had some association.

Chu Feng couldn’t help but laugh. He could only nod and say he would never implicate the innocent.

The Black Wolf King clapped to summon a few partially transformed beast race members. They brought out delicacies and jars of wine to place on the jade temple.

Afterwards, a group of female pixies appeared—these beautiful ladies were obviously transformed from beasts as they retained certain parts of their body like furry cat ears and fluffy wagging tails.

These pixies were extremely charming as they danced, sang and drank.

"Brother Chu, something big has happened," the Black Wolf King mysteriously whispered as he toasted Chu Feng.

"Pray tell." Chu Feng put down his cup. His main reason for coming here was to gather some information and understand the situation of the beast race. Was he about to hear some secret news?

"I heard a piece of news. It seems the ice and snow this time has something to do with the anomaly in the sea," the Black Wolf King informed.

"Oh?"

"It’s said that the marine race discovered a mysterious eye of the sea. There were inheritances and altars within. They proceeded to offer sacrifices but seemed to have called forth a disaster instead. They brought about this ice and snow which filled the whole sky."

Chu Feng was momentarily stunned. There was actually such a thing?

The Black Wolf King said, "There were also others who claimed that someone from the marine race had colluded with a lifeform from the outer realms. He wanted to help the lifeform descend and was following the latter’s instructions. This worsened the changes and initiated the cold winds and ceaseless snow."

Chu Feng frowned. The cold wave this time had indeed extended towards the land from the ocean. Could it really be related to the marine race?

But wouldn’t this be showing the wolf into the house?

"Rest assured. It seems that the extreme experts under the sea were infuriated and stopped everything. They are currently hunting down the perpetrator. Presumably, the snow will stop in the end."

Chu Feng wasn’t positive that the news was true but he felt that it wasn’t baseless. This trip could be considered fruitful.

Finally, Chu Feng started to get tipsy. The Black Wolf King took great care of Chu Feng—he gestured towards the pixies to bring Chu Feng to retire for the night.

"Let it be. I’m still quite busy. The faeries and saintesses of those powerful worlds are about to descend. I have to prepare to take them." Chu Feng declined with a joke and made to leave swiftly. These pixies were simply too passionate for him to resist.

In the following days, Chu Feng didn’t decline the invitations to various banquets. He would rush to every event that wasn’t too far away.

The one that put him in the most difficult situation was the invitation from the Fox Fairy. She was truly an extraordinary beauty. She might not be a peerless beauty, but she was extremely charming, with her swift and fawning glances. She was so passionate that Chu Feng had to escape immediately.

That was because the cave residence was full of scantily clothed female pixies. It was a scene of delicate white. Not only did they pour wine but also helped him to eat, not to mention touching here and there—their fiery gazes caused the ambiance to be absolutely intoxicating. Chu Feng only stayed for a moment before vanishing without a trace.

This was probably the first time he had escaped miserably from a beast king without fighting.

He was drenched in cold sweat. His blood was still boiling even after staying in the snow and ice for a long time.

Everyone got a good laugh as this news spread. No one had expected that Chu Feng would get cold feet.

"Brother Chu, are you still... ’capable’? Why did you run?"

The Manchurian Tiger said in disdain after hearing of this from Mount Kunlun.

Chu Feng’s nose almost erupted with smoke. He really wanted to settle the score with that Fox Fairy—how could she casually expose such things?

"Hey Chu Feng, I heard you’re impotent?"

Even Jiang Luoshen couldn’t resist attacking him with him a message.

Most importantly, the two had ridiculously happened to sleep together in the same bed. This made her extremely upset and claimed she was taken advantage of. However, the bastard left without apologizing and later on they lost contact.

"If you keep blabbering nonsense, I’ll come to Mount Putuo to deal with you!" Chu Feng threatened with a dark expression.

"Boss, we bought a thousand year fleece-flower root!" The Clairvoyant Ouyang Qing contacted him.

"What’s it for?" Chu Feng was puzzled.

"It’s said that it can treat... impotence."

"Damn your grandfather!"

A seething Chu Feng ended the call. He wanted nothing more than to rush over immediately and destroy that fox.

The great snow raged on with varying intensity during the recent days. Fortunately, it didn’t fall madly—this was a silver lining in the dark clouds.

One could obviously feel Chu Feng’s status soar rapidly after the battle at Mount Longhu. The beast race kings were lining up to invite Chu Feng to express their goodwill.

Even those races that had some enmity against him sent people to sue for peace. They submitted thoroughly, afraid that Chu Feng would come knocking on their doors to start a massacre when he felt upset.

Most of the beast kings who had surrounded Chu Feng in Jiangxi had been executed. Only two of them were left; a monkey king and a bird king.

These two kings active sought out Chu Feng and expressed their submission. They stated that as long as Chu Feng spared them, they would follow his every order.

Chu Feng was astonished. He learnt deeply how much influence the battle at Mount Longhu actually had.

It was obvious that the two kings were greatly alarmed recently and couldn’t endure any longer.

Following that, many corporate agents called upon him with rare gifts including fist technique manuals, ancient weapons, etc. They were still worried that Chu Feng would come to settle old scores with them.

After many days of recuperation, the Hollow Jade Temple Master’s heart had healed. His wounds had all recovered. Credit had to be given to the miraculous stone fruits.

"Chu Feng, thank you for rescuing the temple master." Lu Tong called Chu Feng to express his appreciation.

Furthermore, he told Chu Feng to visit the Hollow Jade Temple. They had a peculiar treasure there which no one could see through.

They had already invited many people to investigate but none of them were able to produce results. The Hollow Jade Temple Master had asked Lu Tong to tell Chu Feng that he could come over to take a look if he was interested.

"Chu Feng, we’ll be moving out to head towards the Himalayas within a few days. You can come over now!" Yellow Ox told Chu Feng that they were about to set out.

"Very well. I’ll visit Shuntian first then head west," said Chu Feng.

It was only 7000 kilometers from Mount Song to Shuntian. This distance, to Chu Feng, wasn’t a problem. Even with the wind and snow, he was still astonishingly fast.

He ran through the mist and snow, crossing over mountain ridges. He arrived within two hours even though he rested several times along the way.

At this time, someone contacted him. It was precisely the sect master of Mount Kongtong, the Mountain Tortoise. He told Chu Feng that he had performed a divination. The result was that the world and evolved lifeforms all shared the same fate—they would decline after reaching the apex but prosper again after being annihilated.

Chu Feng was baffled after listening. Hadn’t the meteorologists and biologists predicted all of this? This time, there might be a great disaster later followed by prosperity.

After entering the Hollow Jade Temple and meeting Lu Tong, the old man was extremely enthusiastic.

This time, the Hollow Jade Temple Master personally appeared to welcome Chu Feng and express his gratitude. If not for Chu Feng’s timely rescue, he would’ve died on Mount Longhu.

Afterward, he handed the peculiar treasure over to Chu Feng.

"Oh?! This is..." Chu Feng’s pupils contracted.
